Review : Initial D and 2 Fast 2 Furious-Tokyo Drift

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

This time I want to try write a
review/comparison between 2 film, Initial
D
and 2Fast 2Furius:TokyoDrift. The concept both of this film
is same, it’s about race car on the street and the drift. What’s drift? Anybody
know? Maybe some of you don’t know. Drift is a popular technique driving
originated from Japan,
it is errrr melibas kereta di selekoh pada kelajuan yg tinggiß-Definition
by me. So, I try write a review and try to compare between this 2 film and
which one is the best on my analysis, maybe my review not as good as other
professional/criticism review writer.

Inititial D : The story

A thoroughly commercial enterprise from the word Go, "Initial
D" stars untrained Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou, who gets able assist from
Hong Kong cinema king Anthony Wong and a cast that
will be familiar to
Hong
Kong
 cinephiles. The
film has an impressive pedigree, being directed by the duo of Andrew Lau and
Alan Mak, and written by Felix Chong, the trio having worked together
previously on the mega hit (and soon to be Hollywood remade) "Infernal
Affairs" trilogy.

Based on the Japanese manga by Shuichi Shigeno, "Initial D" follows
the (literally) downhill adventures of tofu delivery teen Takumi (Chou), who
spends his school days in a daze about the flirty Natsuki (Anne Suzuki,
"Returner"), his afternoons working at the gas station of best bud
Itsuki (Chapman To), and his nights delivering tofu for his hard drinking (and
narcoleptic, one presumes) dad Bunta (Anthony Wong). After Takumi zips past a
drift racer (Shawn Yue, "Jiang Hu") on a curvaceous hill one night,
he becomes known as the racer god of that particular hill. His secret identity
blown, Takumi becomes the target of challengers, including Edison Chen and,
later, Jordan Chan.

For five years, 18-year-old Takumi has been delivering tofu in his father’s
obsolescent

Toyota AE86 every morning. Not only has he become
a good racer, but he has also unwillingly perfected the art of drifting. He was
never an aficionado of hill racing until he is asked to drive this AE86 in a
David and Goliath race against Night Kid’s GTR. A glorious but unexpected
victory awakens the competitive genes in his blood, while his overnight fame
inevitably leads to hellraising races one after another, each one more perilous
and exciting than the previous one.

Firstly this 2 film is same by
the concept, it’s about race on street or amateur street by usage of modify
sport car by personal owner. Every driver have their own groups and leader(gang
not team aahhh). If u already seen this 2 movie, there’re so much different
between this 2 movies. Initial D from
the Asian production and 2F2F:Tokyo Drift is from West production.

2 Fast 2 Furious : Tokyo Drift

From the producer of
the worldwide blockbuster hits The
Fast and the Furious and its sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, comes the latest installment of the
adrenaline-inducing series built on speed–The Fast and the Furious:
Tokyo Drift. Set in the sexy and colorful
underground world of Japanese drift racing, the newest and fastest customized
rides go head-to- head on some of the most perilous courses in the world.

Sean Boswell (Black) is an outsider
who attempts to define himself as a hot-headed, underdog street racer. Although
racing provides a temporary escape from an unhappy home and the superficial
world around him, it has also made Sean unpopular with the local authorities.
To avoid jail time, Sean is sent to live with his gruff, estranged father, a
career military-man stationed in
Tokyo.

Now officially a gaijin (outsider),
Sean feels even more shut out in a land of foreign customs and codes of honor.
But it doesn’t take long for him to find some action when a fellow American
buddy, Twinkie (Bow Wow), introduces him to the underground world of drift
racing. Sean’s simple drag racing gets replaced by a rubber-burning, automotive
art form–with an exhilarating balance of speeding and gliding through a
heart-stopping course of hairpin turns and switchbacks.

On his first time out drifting, Sean
unknowingly takes on D.K., the "Drift King," a local champ with ties
to the Japanese crime machine Yakuza. Sean’s loss comes at a high price tag
when he’s forced to work off the debt under the thumb of ex-pat, Han (Kang).
Han soon welcomes Sean into this family of misfits and introduces him to the
real principles of drifting. But when Sean falls for D.K.’s girlfriend, Neela
(newcomer Kelley), an explosive series of events is set into motion, climaxing
with an ultimate high stakes face off.

The story line between them very
different. What I can assume after saw this 2 movie, Initial D is funny, not too over, the hero slumber badak and no
criminal but 2F2F:Tokyo Drift is serius, over with their
colorful cars, hero serius n macho and of course have criminal to make story
more interesting. For me, I like more Initial
D
than 2F2F stand on 3 reasons.

One, Initial D sound track so good and more lively than 2F2F that more on rap music and play
their sound track not at suitable section. (Now I download 1.34GB Initial D
OST).

Two, their Cinematografi (Teknik
shoot diambil), Initial D
cinematografi more like comics because there’s some scene when they’ve static
scene for 2/3 seconds, 3D scene and comical scene (Have multiple view in a
scene). When I saw the static part I thought my movie file corrupt because I
get this movie from internet (Torrent download). Cinematografi in 2F2F like
other action movie, don’t have any interesting technique just have action scene
like race in the town among other crowd people and cars, aksi kejar mengejar n
etc. In cinematografi part, Initial D more interesting for me even they don’t
have scene race in the town.

Reason no 3, story line, I think Initial D is really show the audiens
what is it race car on the street, a story about pure street race driver and pure
drift than 2F2F only base on
criminal, hero study drift technique to tackle a girl and live like street
gangster.

Beside the differentiation
between this 2 film, there’ve a few same part like the hero. The hero inherited
the driving talent from their father and also stay with father, mother tak
dak…. Mother don’t like racing …. Hehehehe… bahaya ……Why when in the race movie
they’re no mother???, girl friend adelahh …. Entahlah. The role father in Initial D more live and more scene than
in 2F2F, this show that family
relationship among asian people still strong even their father not so good. The
son still respect their father and father can beat their son.

Talking about hero, hero in Initial D not too handsome but oklah …
kiut …, the interesting is the hero very2 slumber. Take control the stereng
kete by just one hand and driving like sleepy man in the speedy mode. Huh, ade
ke org mcm tu? In 2F2F, the hero very
macho and always know how to tackle a girl … hehehe…and driving very
confindence and full passion.

What I really hate about Initial D is just they have so many
scene muntah2, in 2F2F no scene like
this. Well this movie was produce by Chinese, every Chinese movie there’re
always muntah2 scene… wajib adelah. Why??? Dunno.

Lastly, The ending of both of
this movie is very different. The hero in Initial
D
broke up with their GF after known about her GF activities as a
prostitute/perempuan simpanan/have other bf (Don’t know which 1), but the hero
in 2F2F ending live with his GF
happy ever after. For me, I choose Initial
D
the best to watch, that’s all from me, tq for reading.
